&lt;p&gt;Welcome to another great year at Anthem School.  The Science classes are designed to stimulate the mind while relating real-world experiences and events to the subject matter studied.  Our topics include astronomy, chemistry, physics, and plant biology.
&lt;p&gt;Our Science classes will be participating in a variety of activities to help ensure the success of all students.  These activities include class assignments, homework, readings, class activities, labs, tests, and quarterly projects.  An emphasis is placed on the labs and projects because true learning is gained from doing.
&lt;p&gt;Please refer to page 16 of the Student Parent Handbook for the grading system utilized by the teaching team.
&lt;p&gt;The best way to learn is to stay involved, complete all assignments, and always ask for clarification when needed.

&lt;p&gt;Dear Parents and Students,
							      August 21, 2003
&lt;p&gt;Welcome to Anthem School and to the 7th and 8th grade classes.  We have high expectations for all of our students and are looking forward to a great and successful 2003-2004 school year.  Please take the time to read this letter regarding classroom rules, guide-
lines and policies, and a list of materials that we recommend our students have for class.
&lt;p&gt;Our teaching philosophy is very simple:  ALL students are capable of achieving to their highest level and no student has the right to interfere with this learning process.  We have established the following rules and expectations to help meet this philosophy and make this school year run smoothly.
&lt;p&gt;I.  Classroom rules and guidelines
	A. The school/district rules are in the student handbook   and will be adhered to strictly.
	B. The following classroom rules are posted in the classrooms:
	    1. Students are to be in their seats, on time, with appropriate assignments and materials (Handbook, p. 25).
	    2. Show respect and courtesy to others and their property; display proper behavior with all students and adults (Handbook, p. 25).
	    3. Do not wear hats or caps in any building on campus (Handbook, p.26).
	    4. Leave all gum, candy, sunflower seed, etc. at home (Handbook, p. 25).
	    5. Allow the educational process to continue uninterrupted (Handbook, p. 27).
&lt;p&gt;II. Materials recommended for class are as follows:
	A. Spiral notebooks; pencils with erasers; standard black/blue pens; set of colored pencils; 3-ring binder and loose-leaf, lined paper (paper torn from spiral notebooks will not be accepted for regular assignments).
	B. Other materials may be required based on specific projects throughout the year.
	C. We recommend that all students have access to a standard, hardbound English dictionary for use at home.
&lt;p&gt;III. Assignments and homework:
	A. Please refer to page 24 of the Student/Parent Handbook for homework guidelines and expectations.
	B. Measurement of student achievement will be based on daily work, homework, projects, labs, test, etc.  See page 10 of the Student/Parent Handbook for detailed information regarding the grading system utilized by our district.
&lt;p&gt;	C. All assignments will contain the appropriate heading information in the upper right hand corner of the assignment page as follows: full name, class and hour, date, and assignment.  No name on any assignment will result in no credit or grade, and an incomplete header will result in a reduced grade.
&lt;p&gt;	D. Homework is accepted on the date due unless the student has an excused absence. 
	    As per the Student/Parent Handbook (p. 16), a student has one day to make up homework per day of the excused absence.
&lt;p&gt;	    Students will know their weekly assignments and testing schedules on Monday of each week and will annotate their student agenda accordingly.  Please review the agenda with your student to ensure they are keeping up on their assignments.  Any missed work is the student&amp;#8218;s responsibility (p. 16).
&lt;p&gt;IV. Progress Reports/Report Cards
	Please refer to page 11 of the Student/Parent Handbook for dates to expect report cards and progress reports.  Copies of the progress reports and report cards are to be signed by the parent and returned to the homeroom teacher within three academic days from date of student receipt.  Failure to return signed report cards/progress reports may result in disciplinary action.
&lt;p&gt;Parents and students, we are looking forward to a successful year here at Anthem School. Let&amp;#8218;s enjoy the learning process, the social interaction with your peers and adults, and have fun . . .
